Hello and welcome to Mr. Pippin's Elementary Music!! I am so excited for another great school year!
Music is as old as speaking! It's written history is as complex and long as any subject in the school!
Going back to the Greek city-states, music education has a long history of improving critical thinking and communication, as well as the "ability to affect more than a single brain hemisphere, incorporating both the right and left sides of the brain" (“How Does Music Stimulate Left and Right Brain Function? – Middle C Music Education,” 2017). In elementary school we start learning the language of music, the staff, the notes, and rhythm.
Music is also ubiquitous, being found in every culture in the world. In class, we will listen to some of that music and explore the similarities and differences from our music.
